I was picked up on the streets in Merced, and almost euthanized by the Merced Animal Shelter. Just in time, Tri-Valley Animal Rescue found me, and there I was discovered by my new family. I have been with my family for about a year now and I love them as much as they love me! One day they made a mistake and didn't take me to the dog park to run. Just to let them know what a big mistake that was, I broke a lamp and chewed up some stuff while they were gone. To my surprise, they still loved me, and promised to take me to the dog park EVERY day from then on!

My favorite toy is the kong that I play with at the dog park, and my favorite treat is the dried salmon that mom and dad have been giving me.

After a very successful racing career, this beautiful (hence the name) greyhound went into the Colorado prison dog training program for several months before being adopted. She is now very happy in her new home. She's silly and fun and very, very polite. With her new Mod Dog collar she's even more beautiful, if that's possible, and tres chic and stylish to boot.

Bella's Favorite Things:

Her favorite game is to pick things up from around the house and set them in her bed. No chewing, she just makes a subtle "pay attention to me" statement. And when confronted with the stolen item she looks at you as if to say, "Moi? Of course I had nothing to do with this silly escapade." Her favorite toys are her fuzzy Eeyore toy and any old pieces of cardboard. Her favorite past time: to run. And she truly is poetry in motion. Her most silly feature? When she gets excited her teeth chatter and you can hear them across the room!

More About Friday : "She is a rescue dog. I found her online through an agency that saves dogs from high-kill shelters in the South and brings them to New England to foster them while finding their forever homes. She had been abused and was found abandoned in Tennessee. Working dogs like Cattle Dogs frequently are found in shelters, as the original owners may not have known how much constant training/jobs these the dogs need. I am a single woman who works at home (I am an artist) and thought I would be the right candidate to become her new mom and offer her a safe place to live with lots of attention and lots of room to run on my property on Cape Cod. She came to me with plenty of issues, but with love and training, she has become the most important being I have ever been lucky enough to have in my life (I even built my house just for her, going as far as to set a dedication to her in the concrete just inside the front door.)." -Jennifer

The new blog is much easier to navigate to see new collar styles, FAQs, dog pictures, and more. I've also just added few new ribbons to the New Styles Section, so please e-mail me at kyra@themoddog.com if you are interested in a custom order.

Secondly, The Mod Dog collars are now available at The Beehive in Atlanta, GA. The Beehive is a local boutique comprised of independent local and regional designers, so everything is handmade! More about Lemon Drop: "I am not sure what lemon drop's story was before I adopted him other than the fact that he was surrendered to the government kennels which terminate animals after 4 days. Luckily Hong Kong Dog Rescue took him in and I adopted him July 2008. He is such a friendly dog and I couldn't imagine life without him now. These days he is most happy when he is either playing chuck it, riding in the car with the wind in his face or eating."

'normous!!!' 'Normous' was shortened to Normy and that's what stuck... Poor
thing!"

About Normy: She was 2.5 yrs old when we rescued her and was a real handful.. She had a very very strong hunt drive and a big fear aggression and guarding problem when we were out and about, there were a number of occasions I had to wrap her lead around a tree just to hang on to her. We live in the country and she basically went wild for nearly a year then gradually, started to accept us as her new family and today (2 years on after a lot of blood sweat and tears of frustration!!!) she is the most WONDERFUL, gentle dog I could ever have dreamed of owning. She will always keep me on my toes but I wouldn't have it any other way, she's exciting but an absolute joy to train and work with now. Normy looks after us all beautifully and is an absolute
angel with children.

More About Mister Bascam: "My husband and I had dreamed of having an Italian Greyhound for a long time, but couldn't justify the cost of buying one from a breeder. We ended up adopting 2 full sized ex-racing greyhounds instead, and years later we saw a notice on a greyhound email list that an Italian Greyhound (who's owner was a breeder, and going to prison for some reason!) was going up for adoption as an unregistered rescue. We immediately submitted our application and were lucky enough to be the first serious applicant of hundreds. We picked him up as a 6lb. puppy and we're so happy to call him our little pup. His name is from a cheesy line in an old Jerry Lewis movie: "Mister Bascam can't drive, he doesn't have a license!" -- in the movie, Mister Bascam is a dog. My husband was desperate to name our first male dog this name, so I finally caved in."

More About Charlie: Charlie was a Christmas present for 2 little girls (Anna 6, and Olivia 4). They adopted him from a family in Plano, TX. As you can see by the pictures he is a very cute dog. His sister Anna wants to tell everyone, "He has cute brown eyes, and floppy ears, and he loves to run beside our bikes when we ride."

More About Preston: He was adopted when he was 10 weeks old. His owner picked him because he acted very calm around his littermates. When he got to his new home he was full of energy and still is!

Preston's favorite things: Preston has 66 toys (and counting) and can fetch ALL of them by names. He has an obsession with laser pointers. They can't mention the words "laser pointer" in front of him if they don't intend to play with him. Whoever makes the mistake has the responsibility of playing with him until he is tired (which is NEVER!) or suffer the agony of ignoring his begging eyes.

More About Honey: She was rescued 3 months ago through an organization called "Love-a-Mutt". She had been found wandering under a freeway overpass, pregnant. She ended up having 15 puppies and living in a foster home for a few months before she was adopted.

Honey's favorite things: She loves to chew rawhide and goes through at least one a day!
She also really likes to play with a little foxy squeaker toy. She loves her collar and is always impatient to have her collar put back on again when it is taken off to add a tag or to be cleaned

More About Bleeker: He was adopted from a rescue foundation in Cincinnati when he was 14 weeks old. Bleeker is a bundle of energy and is very smart. Although, he is normally quiet, he loves to give a big "AAROOOOOOOOOOOOO" (very sing-song) when he's really excited, which is usually when somebody is throwing a tennis ball for him.

Bleekers favorite things: He loves riding on the back of his owner's scooter. Loves running with the big dogs at the dog park and he's thrilled that he's now got a little sister, Nellie Roo. His favorite treats are chicken livers.

Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen in danger of losing warehouse

This is bad news. Very bad news indeed for over 1,000 family members and over 2,000 pets we’ve helped over the past 10 months.

Daffy’s has recently learned that, due to the current economic crunch, our warehouse sponsor can no longer afford to help cover our lease expense and we will be faced with the possibility of closing the warehouse by September 1st if other sponsors don’t step forward to assist us.

The need for a soup kitchen to provide free food to pets continues to grow. Daffy’s now has multiple locations in eight states, has been contacted by 20 other states to start up, and in Georgia alone, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen serves more than 30 counties. This is all done with the help of volunteers and monetary and food donations. In addition, the initial startup costs and insurance is covered under Daffy’s umbrella; a division of the SOS Club.

Daffy’s needs your help now more than ever! Not only will your donation help the Lawrenceville, Georgia warehouse stay open, it will help the locations Georgia-wide and nationwide continue in their efforts. Without our Georgia warehouse we can not supply the other locations and without your help, we may not be able to keep our warehouse open. We currently distribute over 20,000 lbs. of food per month to families in need. Dogs and cats that we now feed will most likely end up in shelters with little hope of adoption. The shelters are overcrowded and animals are being euthanized at an alarming rate…in the state of Georgia alone, 219 animals are put down every single day. We need your help to keep a family member with their family instead of facing abandonment. Imagine a child going off to school and coming home to find the house empty…his beloved pet having been dropped off a shelter because the family couldn’t afford pet food. Times are tough! And these decisions are being made every day. We work very hard to keep families from being forced into making this decision.

On Saturday, June 13th Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen is holding it’s First Annual Daffy’s Day block party from 12-5 all proceeds will benefit Daffy’s Warehouse Fund. Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen is located at 2160 Oakland Industrial Court, Suite 100 in Lawrenceville, GA. Bring the two legged and four legged kids and have a fun filled afternoon with activities, professional pet tips, food and fun for everyone! Professional photographer Heather Cosgrave of Cosgrave Studios will be taking photos. CPR will be demonstrated and folks will have a chance to sign up for future Daffy’s CPR classes. Backyard Sanctuary will be talking about the feral cats program and pet ID Tags will be available for sale. Taj Ma-Hound Bakery and Dogwell/Catswell will be on hand to give out yummy treats. In an effort to be more environmentally friendly and reduce my "carbon footprint" I am reusing kleenex boxes as ribbon organizers. This way I am more organized and clutter free, while at the same time reducing the amount of trash I create. Also, it is FREE and who doesn't like that. All I did was push the spools of ribbon through the tissue opening and cut a slit for the ribbon to hang out. I feel very crafty and creative right now. Yay me!
